Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, St. Petersburg, Russia

This iconic church is one of the top reasons to visit St. Petersburg.  With a close similarity to Moscow’s St. Basils, the church commemorates the death of Alexander II, who freed the serfs, at least 5 years before US’s Emancipation by Lincoln. The inside of the church is the real pleasure as it consists of 7500 square meters of colorful mosaics 360 degrees all around you.  You are allowed to linger to admire (not like the St Mark’s in Venice, where you are rushed and get only 5 min).
